Daft and barmy is London Cockney rhyming slang for army.
(1). an exceptionaly thick person or used as an insult for someone who has just done something particularly daft: e.g."You dose!" (2). venereal disease (sexually transmitted infection), most often used with 'clap' as in "I wouldn't screw her - I heard she's had a dose of clap...!" (ed: trouble was back in the 60's that most kids had NO idea either what VD really was or what a problem "the clap" could be so went ahead anyway. Kids are more enlightened today - aren't they??)
Disabled person. For example "That Lionel Starkey, he's such a spanner" (Mr Starkey was spesh),(Contributor asks "jesus, did we ever used to say stuff like this?" (ed: afraid so... kids are nasty, horrible, sadistic little bastards usually - I know - I used to be one!) Had more on this one. Seems the terms now mutated into an almost 'affectionate' admonition for someone who has done something 'daft. Used as "God did you really do that? You are such a spanner!!" (ed: on the other hand, its origins are the same so... ?).
adj slightly lacking in the common sense department; a bit daft. The word (as “gaumless”) also exists in Scots-derived American English with the same meaning but is not in common use.
Idiot. Verbatin description was "This is rather difficult to quantify. It has been heard in various contexts but received opinion has it that it refers to a 'bam' or 'daftie' in that it denotes one of inferior intellect. Its origin is unknown (and not a little baffling) but it is in common usage in playgrounds bedecked with sovvy rings and amongst those who prefer to tuck their joggy bottoms into their socks.".
Mental, in a daft state of mind. Used as "Are you radged?".

Daft
Vagina. Used as an insulting term as a substitute for 'cunt' or 'fanny'. used as "You're a tube, by the way!". Often used at the start of exchanges that lead to a minor scuffle, later to be talked about as if it had been the rumble in the jungle. Steve says he was at secondary school 1977-81 in Scotland and used 'tube' in a less offensive way. He used it as the equivalent to something like 'daftie', or 'silly fool', and could be used as a familiar term or one of endearment. It may have had the same origins as the other definition but he certainly did not use it that way. He says would have had no problem reporting it to his mum or gran (although he wouldn't have said it to them, out of respect). It's still used the same way now by people of my age-group.
